Stewart Armstrong established SAPEIA, LLC in 2012 to provide consulting for packaging; design, materials, and machinery in the food industries. He uses his extensive experience to design innovations and automation that address the needs of the ever-changing food packaging market. His projects range from existing product automation to new product/package design and development in the bakery, confectionary, cheese & dairy, frozen food, and the meat & poultry food industry sector.
In addition to materials science and engineering, packaging engineers need to have a strong understanding of manufacturing processes, line management and redundancy, quality control, and regulatory requirements. They must be able to design packaging solutions that are not only effective but also feasible to produce at scale and meet industry standards and regulations.
Innovation in packaging design has become increasingly important in recent years, as companies seek to differentiate their products and meet the changing needs and preferences of consumers. This has led to the development of new materials and technologies that enable packaging to be more sustainable, functional, lightweight and built quickly.
Automation in packaging processes can help companies achieve significant cost savings by eliminating manual labor, minimizing errors, and reducing material waste by ensuring that packaging materials are used more efficiently and precisely. By investing in automation, companies realize long-term cost savings while also improving their productivity and overall competitiveness.
A comprehensive knowledge of different materials, manufacturing processes, printing techniques, and machinery is essential to stay competitive in the packaging industry.
